Neuse, Tar-Pamlico, and Catawba River Basin Buffer Delineation
North Carolina has specific laws for perennial and intermittent streams with respect to buffer zones. Since 1999, the Neuse and Tar River Basins have implemented additional buffer rules that apply to permanent streams indicated on either NRCS Soils Maps or USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle maps. These rules require a 50-foot forested buffer; the 30 feet nearest the shoreline are to remain undisturbed, and the additional 20 feet must remain vegetated with some use restrictions. The Catena Group has the expertise to determine whether specific buffer rules are applicable to your property.
